Brand POV

A few campaigns and brands I keep thinking about.

Take 01 · Beauty retail

“We All Sephora”

Sephora’s 2026 holiday campaign casts Seth Rogen as a lovable, clueless beauty shopper. Instead of talking to the beauty insider, it talks to everyone buying a gift for one. That shift is the smart part: it turns Sephora’s Beauty Advisors into the hero and makes a famously intimidating store feel approachable.

The rollout was just as clever. A one-day “Sethphora” storefront at The Grove in Los Angeles teased the campaign before the ads ran, and a shoppable list curated by Rogen gave the joke somewhere to go. Humor got attention; the gift list turned it into sales.

Great beauty marketing doesn’t always speak to the expert. Sometimes it welcomes the outsider.

Take 02 · Emerging brands

Mr. Winston & Bonnie Clyde

I love emerging brands that feel like a friend recommended them. Mr. Winston makes laid-back apparel with a point of view that feels personal, not mass-produced. Bonnie Clyde makes sunglasses that are playful and fashion-forward at a price that invites you to own more than one pair.

What they share is a clear personality that shows up in every touchpoint, from product to packaging to social. That consistency is what turns first-time buyers into fans, and it’s the kind of brand-building I want to do.

Small brands win with a voice you could pick out of a crowd.

Take 03 · Fragrance

Juliette Has a Gun

Juliette Has a Gun, the Parisian perfume house, breaks the fragrance-category rules on purpose. Its name is bold, and its best-known scent is called “Not a Perfume.” Where most fragrance marketing leans on mystery and glamour, this brand leans on wit and confidence.

That irreverence makes a luxury category feel modern and approachable without losing its polish. It proves a prestige brand can have a sense of humor and still feel elevated.

Luxury doesn’t have to take itself seriously to be taken seriously.
